Common questions

Everything you need to know about Still the Parent — the website, the app, and how it works.

What is Still the Parent?
Still the Parent is a daily companion for parents navigating estrangement from an adult child. It delivers personalised prompts, weekly affirmations, and gentle support — shaped by where you actually are in your healing journey, not where anyone thinks you should be. It is available as both a website and a native mobile app.
Do I need to have read the book to use the website or app?
No. The website and app stand completely on their own. If you have read the book, the experience deepens that journey. If you haven't, the website and app are a complete companion in themselves.
How does it know where I am in my journey?
When you join, you complete a short, warm onboarding — a few simple questions and six statements you rate honestly. From those answers, the system places you at the right starting point for your journey. You can move forward at any pace.
Is my journal private? Can anyone read what I write?
Everything you write is private and encrypted. It cannot be read by anyone — not by the author, not by the team, not by anyone else. Your words belong only to you.
Is AI used?
Yes, and we want to be clear about how. Still the Parent uses AI to personalise your experience — to choose the right prompt for where you are today and to support your emotional progress over time. AI is never used to read your journal entries, make clinical assessments, or share your data with anyone. It is simply a tool to match the right content to your journey.
How is this different from therapy?
Still the Parent is not therapy and does not replace it. It is a private daily space for reflection, guided by prompts drawn from lived experience and research. If you are working with a therapist, it can complement that work — and includes a journal export you can share with your therapist if you choose to.
Is this suitable for fathers as well as mothers?
Absolutely. Estrangement affects fathers deeply — often in ways that go unacknowledged. The experience includes content written specifically for fathers, and the entire journey is designed for any parent, regardless of gender.
How often will I receive prompts?
One prompt is delivered each morning. Every week you also receive a weekly affirmation delivered to your inbox. In the days before significant dates — a birthday, a holiday, Mother's or Father's Day — milestone prompts prepare you so you are never caught off guard.
Can I go back and read what I've written before?
Yes. Every response you save is stored in your private journal, which you can return to at any time. Monthly reflections also surface what you wrote at the same point last month, so you can see your own progress.
What if my situation changes — for example, if contact is restored?
The experience adapts with you. There is a dedicated prompt specifically for parents navigating cautious reconnection — available the moment you indicate that something has changed, whether during onboarding or at any point afterward.
What happens after the free access — all features included?
After your free trial you can choose a monthly plan (USD$5/month) or an annual plan (USD$50/year — saving 17%). If you decide not to continue, you simply don't subscribe — no obligation and no credit card required to start your trial. The support resource directory remains accessible to everyone, with or without a subscription.
Can I cancel at any time?
Yes, completely. You can cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings with no fees and no questions asked.
What if I'm having a really bad day?
The system notices when you're struggling. On harder days it adjusts what it offers you — leaning toward comfort and support rather than deeper reflection. The Resources section also contains a directory of professional support organisations if you need to speak to someone.
